There was a massive uproar on Ableton's page when they announced that (was a while ago).Ī ton of ppl upgrading to Catalina blindly without checking if it breaks things, just because it's free and new. So they're not officially supporting Live 9 on Catalina, as there are bugs. You'd think with things the way they are they would give live musicians a break, this is not a fun discovery for me. Sorry but this looks like a cynical business move to me and has nothing to do with technical limitations. I would pay 20-30 euros no problem for update, but fuck paying them 230 for an upgrade that I don't want, that is a total rip off. If they asked 10 euros for an update they could get 1 million euros to pay for the cost of updating the code, which of course would in turn subsidise the 10 version. I'm not saying they should do this for free but they must have at least half a million people on OSX, lets be conservative and say 100k. And are only Mac users getting penalised like this?Īs Gully said if you had to do this for every piece of software you'd be bankrupt. They didn't write 10 from scratch, they would have upgraded 9 added a few new features (which looks to have taken them no time at all) then now demand everyone upgrade. To download TyrellN6, go to the Amazona TyrellN6 V3 page and scroll down until you see the macOS, Windows and Linux links.Surely most of Ableton 10 is exactly that.

The new user interface was designed by Ryo Ishido. In April 2013, we released TyrellN6 version 3, which now supports VST3. After some serious bug-fixing and fine tuning, the final release version became available in April 2011. Only a few weeks later, TyrellN6 was out for beta testing. However, it soon became obvious that developing the hardware would have taken years, so Urs offered to turn the core design into a freeware softsynth. Based on a design similar to Roland’s classic Juno 60, a few modules and novel features could be added without making the product too expensive. A reader survey and follow-up on forum posts provided a pool of ideas for a low-cost hardware analogue synth, which Mic ‘Moogulator’ Irmer collected and used to develop quite a powerful concept. Tyrell is the name of a project by the German online magazine.
